UNIQUM | Discover who you are

FPN (Psychology) and FHML (Health, medicine and life sciences), two faculties of Maastricht University,  were curious if there is a demand for a new academic mental health care institution in the region. The main reason for this initiative is the shortage of clinical internships in the region, especially within the track children and adolescent Mental Health Care. Furthermore it will provide the possibility to extract data for research purposes which can directly benefit the care provided in this new academic institution.

Because of a lot of social and political changes a lot of stakeholders were involved. The mission for the Service Science Factory is to find out who are those stakeholders, what their needs & challenges are and what service should this new institute provide to add to the current Mental Health Care system in the region.

"The 10 week project SSF executed was next to intensive, productive and purpose orientated also a lot of fun. The final product is tangible,
professional and functions as a step up for the next phase."

− Andrea Grauvogl & Natalja Sarneel - Initiative takers Uniqum project

In the first phase (Seek-phase) of this project we identified the main stakeholders and interviewed them, we did research on what laws / trends / situations could possible influence a future academic MHC-institution and looked at other academic institutions such as the ambulatorium in Groningen, Nijmegen and Utrecht and learned from them. From the interview analysis we came to the conclusion that there lies potential within the prevention sector. After several ideation sessions the team came up with the Uniqum-concept, which is an open and inviting environment where children with the help of professionals get to know who they are and from there work on their strengths and learn how to deal with their weaknesses or overcome them.

In order to convince certain stakeholders to move forward with this new initiative, we have made this institute come alive by showing the Uniqum in a visual way. We did this by creating a so called customer journey. A journey where the main users/actors interact with the Uniqum. Next to that, we documented all the research, our service concept and visuals in a final report. Together with the next steps, that are described at the end of the document, this first project should be a good start for the realization of the Uniqum.
